Three held for alleged abduction, robbery in Kozhikode

Three individuals have been arrested in Kozhikode, Kerala, in connection with the abduction and robbery of a businessman, Shihabudheen, on February 16th. The arrested are identified as Shahnas, Safwan, and Niyas – all residents of Kozhikode.

The incident involved Shihabudheen being forcibly taken from near his business establishment in Mavoor and held captive for several hours. During his captivity, the perpetrators demanded a ransom of ₹20 lakh from his family. A ransom of ₹8 lakh was eventually delivered to the specified location as per their instructions.

Police investigation revealed the crime was meticulously planned. Shahnas, a former employee of Shihabudheen, allegedly played a key role in providing information about the businessman’s financial status and daily routines. Safwan is accused of directly participating in the abduction and coordinating the ransom demands. Niyas is believed to have assisted in logistical support and surveillance.

The investigation was led by Kozhikode Rural Police, with assistance from various specialized units. Police recovered the ransom amount and the vehicle used for the abduction. Initial interrogation suggests financial difficulties motivated the crime.

The accused have been remanded in judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation to determine if any other individuals were involved in the case, and to fully uncover the extent of the conspiracy. Further investigation is focused on recovering additional evidence and establishing a comprehensive timeline of events. The police have stated that the swift arrest was facilitated by analyzing mobile phone data and conducting extensive searches based on witness testimonies.
