Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed the state police to prioritize minimizing public inconvenience during VIP movements. He expressed concern over recent traffic disruptions caused by VIP convoys, acknowledging the hardship faced by ordinary citizens, including patients and students.
The CM instructed officials to develop a comprehensive plan to regulate traffic effectively, ensuring smooth flow even during VIP travel. This includes exploring alternative routes, coordinating with relevant departments, and utilizing technology for real-time traffic management. He emphasized the need to avoid complete road closures and instead opt for controlled traffic movement.
Specifically, Revanth Reddy called for advance notification to the public regarding VIP routes and timings, potentially through social media and local news channels. He also suggested staggered timings for VIP movements to avoid peak hours and minimize disruption.
The Chief Minister stressed that public service should be the primary focus and that VIP security should not come at the cost of citizen comfort and essential services. He directed the police to ensure ambulances and emergency vehicles are given unimpeded passage during VIP movements.
Further, he instructed officials to investigate instances of alleged harassment of citizens by security personnel during VIP routes and take appropriate action. The CM also advocated for a review of existing protocols and procedures related to VIP security arrangements to identify areas for improvement.
The directive comes after public complaints regarding significant traffic congestion and delays caused by recent VIP visits, particularly impacting daily commuters and those needing urgent medical attention. The government aims to strike a balance between providing adequate security for VIPs and ensuring a hassle-free experience for the general public. The police department has been asked to submit a detailed action plan within a week outlining the steps to be taken to implement these instructions.
