No immediate plans for Delhi visit; leadership call up to party high command, says Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has stated he has no immediate plans to visit Delhi, despite speculation regarding a potential meeting with the Congress high command. He clarified that he will travel to Delhi only if summoned by the party leadership.

The context for this statement arises from recent discussions surrounding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and potential adjustments within the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). There’s been talk of a possible reshuffle, including the replacement of KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar. Siddaramaiah emphasized that such decisions rest solely with the high command.

He addressed the media after a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, aiming to dispel rumors of discord between them. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to working together for the party’s success in the parliamentary elections. Siddaramaiah reiterated his support for Shivakumar continuing as KPCC President, stating that Shivakumar has been effectively leading the party.

Regarding the selection of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, Siddaramaiah mentioned that a list is expected soon. He indicated that the party is considering winnability as a primary factor, alongside social representation and the inclusion of young candidates. Discussions are ongoing with potential candidates and district Congress committees.

Siddaramaiah also responded to questions about the implementation of the five guarantees promised by the Congress during the assembly elections. He assured that the government is committed to fulfilling these promises and is working to ensure their effective implementation. He highlighted the positive impact of the guarantees on various sections of society.

He dismissed reports of any pressure from within the party to change the KPCC president, stating that the high command will make the final decision based on their assessment. He also downplayed suggestions of a rift with Shivakumar, emphasizing their collaborative approach to governance and party affairs. The Chief Minister reiterated his focus on strengthening the party and preparing for the Lok Sabha elections.
