TVK office-bearer arrested for sexually harassing minor in Chennai

A treasurer of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) Employees Association (TVK) has been arrested in Chennai following accusations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused, identified as S. Murugan, was apprehended by the All Women Police, Mylapore, based on a complaint filed by a 17-year-old girl.

The complainant alleges that Murugan engaged in inappropriate conduct during a recent association event held at a private hall in Mylapore. Specifically, she claims he inappropriately touched her while she was performing a traditional dance.

Police initiated an investigation following the complaint, gathering statements from the victim and witnesses. Based on the evidence collected, Murugan was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing, with police planning to question additional individuals who attended the event.

The TVK has stated they are cooperating with the police investigation and have removed Murugan from his position as treasurer pending the outcome of the case. They emphasize that the association condemns any form of misconduct and maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards such behavior.
