The Hindu video report details the political fallout from Tamil Nadu BJP chief K. Annamalai’s recent claims regarding the financial dealings of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) party leader Thol. Thirumavalavan.
Annamalai alleged that Udhayanidhi Stalin facilitated a payment of ₹37 crore from a distillery company to VCK, suggesting a quid pro quo for the VCK’s support during elections. He presented documents purportedly showing the transactions.
The DMK swiftly denounced Annamalai’s accusations as “fabricated” and a “desperate attempt” to divert attention from the BJP’s own failures. DMK spokesperson, TKS Elangovan, called the allegations “baseless” and demanded evidence. He further accused the BJP of attempting to disrupt the INDIA alliance.
Surprisingly, the Congress party has publicly backed VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated. Congress leader, Selvam, stated that Thirumavalavan is a respected leader and the accusations are an attempt to malign his image. This support from a key INDIA bloc partner is significant.
The VCK has also vehemently denied the charges, labeling them a “malicious campaign” by the BJP. Thirumavalavan stated the allegations are intended to fracture the INDIA alliance and damage his party’s reputation. He threatened legal action against Annamalai.
The report highlights the escalating tensions between the BJP and the DMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu, particularly ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The accusations and counter-accusations are intensifying the political atmosphere. The Congress’s support for VCK adds another layer to the complex dynamics within the INDIA bloc, demonstrating a willingness to defend its allies against perceived attacks from the BJP. The BJP maintains its stance, insisting on the veracity of the documents presented. The situation is expected to further unfold with potential legal battles and continued political sparring.
