Vijay’s TVK seeks CPI’s support after Congress, CPI(M) outreach

Tamil Nadu’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), founded by actor Vijay, is actively seeking support from the Communist Party of India (CPI) after failing to secure an alliance with the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. TVK representatives recently met with CPI State Secretary R. Mutharasan to discuss potential collaboration for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Congress and CPI(M) have reportedly turned down TVK’s alliance proposals, primarily due to concerns over the party’s organizational structure and its relatively new entry into the political arena. Sources indicate that both parties are prioritizing established allies within the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance.

TVK is now focusing on securing a minimum of one to two seats to contest in the elections, and views the CPI as a viable partner. Mutharasan stated the CPI will decide on an alliance after considering TVK’s proposals and consulting with other parties within the Left Democratic Front. He emphasized the importance of a broader understanding within the opposition bloc to defeat the BJP.

Vijay’s party aims to position itself as a significant force in Tamil Nadu politics, capitalizing on the actor’s widespread popularity. However, its lack of a strong grassroots network and experienced political leadership presents challenges. The party is attempting to overcome these hurdles by forging alliances with established parties.

The outcome of the TVK-CPI discussions will be crucial for TVK’s electoral prospects. A partnership with the CPI could provide TVK with a platform and organizational support, while the CPI could benefit from Vijay’s fan base. The article highlights the fluid nature of alliance formations in Tamil Nadu ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, with parties exploring various combinations to maximize their chances of success. TVK’s efforts demonstrate its determination to establish itself as a relevant political player despite initial setbacks in alliance talks.
