Telangana CM Revanth Reddy leaves for Delhi to seek approval for Hyderabad Metro phase II

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy travelled to Delhi on February 22, 2024, to expedite the approval process for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II project. The project, spanning approximately 31 km, includes extensions of the existing three corridors (LB Nagar to LB Nagar, JBS to MGBS, and Nagole to Raidurg) and a new 5.5 km line connecting Raidurg to Shamshabad airport.

The total estimated cost of Phase II is around ₹8,453 crore. The state government is seeking the Union government’s approval for the project, particularly focusing on financial clearances and necessary permissions from various ministries. A key aspect of the discussions involves securing funding, with the state government hoping for a favorable financial partnership with the Centre.

During his visit, Chief Minister Reddy is scheduled to meet with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, along with other relevant central government officials. The meetings aim to address concerns and finalize the project details to ensure its swift implementation.

The expansion is expected to significantly improve connectivity across Hyderabad, easing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity. The new corridors will connect key areas like the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, further enhancing the city’s infrastructure.

The Telangana government views the Metro Rail expansion as crucial for the city’s continued growth and development. Delays in approval have been a concern, and the Chief Minister’s visit underscores the state’s commitment to pushing the project forward. Officials accompanying Reddy are prepared to present detailed project reports and address any queries from the central authorities. The state anticipates a positive response and a timely green signal for Phase II, allowing construction to begin soon.
