Two individuals were arrested in Katpadi, Vellore district, Tamil Nadu, for allegedly stealing goats. The arrests followed a complaint filed by a farmer, Ganesan, who reported the theft of three goats from his goat shed on the night of May 16, 2024.
Police investigation led to the identification of the suspects as Manikandan and Arumugam, both residents of the same area. Authorities recovered the stolen goats from their possession. The accused reportedly confessed to the crime, stating they intended to sell the goats for financial gain.
The Katpadi police registered a case under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), pertaining to theft. The recovered goats were returned to their owner, Ganesan. This incident highlights a recurring issue of livestock theft in the region, prompting police to increase vigilance.
Further investigation revealed that the duo had been involved in similar goat thefts in the past, targeting vulnerable livestock sheds during the night. Police are currently exploring if they are connected to other unsolved cases of livestock theft in Vellore and surrounding districts. The arrests were made by a team led by Inspector Murugan. The swift action by the police has been appreciated by local farmers who have been facing losses due to such thefts. The incident underscores the importance of securing livestock and reporting any suspicious activity to the authorities. The recovered goats were confirmed to be in good health and were safely returned to Ganesan’s farm.
