West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticized the central government’s development schemes, alleging they are often rebranded versions of initiatives originally started by the state government. She specifically mentioned the PM-KISAN scheme, claiming West Bengal had a similar agricultural assistance program in place before the central scheme’s launch.
Banerjee accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to take credit for state-led projects and highlighted instances where central teams sent for evaluation were allegedly biased and focused on finding faults. She asserted that the state government has consistently prioritized inclusive development and has successfully implemented numerous welfare programs directly benefiting the population.
The Chief Minister emphasized her government’s focus on social welfare schemes like Lakshmir Bhandar, a universal basic income program for women, and Swastha Sathi, a health insurance scheme. She stated these initiatives have significantly improved the socio-economic conditions of people in West Bengal.
Banerjee further criticized the central government’s handling of funds allocated to the state, alleging delays and obstructions in releasing funds for various projects, particularly those related to infrastructure and disaster management. She claimed this hinders the state’s development efforts.
She reiterated her commitment to secularism and inclusive politics, contrasting it with what she described as the BJP’s divisive agenda. Banerjee also spoke about the state government’s efforts to promote education, healthcare, and employment opportunities for all sections of society.
The CM asserted that the guiding principle of her government is “development for all,” ensuring benefits reach every citizen irrespective of their caste, creed, or religion. She concluded by expressing confidence in the continued progress and prosperity of West Bengal under her leadership.
