Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging he is “compromised” and no longer capable of running the country, following the Supreme Court’s recent observations regarding the Adani Group. He claimed the PM’s actions are driven by a desire to benefit specific individuals, specifically Gautam Adani.
Gandhi referenced the Supreme Court’s statement that it cannot be the final arbiter of truth regarding allegations against Adani, asserting this implies a systemic failure and a compromise within the government. He argued the court essentially stated it couldn’t fully investigate due to a lack of cooperation from regulatory bodies, which he believes are under the PM’s control.
He further stated that the PM has a close relationship with Adani, citing Adani’s rise in wealth coinciding with Modi’s tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister. Gandhi questioned how Adani became the wealthiest person in the world, suggesting it was due to favouritism and policy changes benefiting his businesses.
The Congress leader accused the PM of weakening institutions like the Election Commission, the Reserve Bank of India, and investigative agencies, rendering them incapable of independent functioning. He alleged these institutions are now used to protect the interests of a select few.
Gandhi also highlighted the alleged manipulation of the electoral process, claiming the government is using its power to disqualify opposition leaders like himself and suppress dissenting voices. He expressed concern about the future of Indian democracy, stating it is under threat.
He called for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the Adani issue, arguing it is the only way to uncover the truth and restore public trust. He believes a JPC, unlike a Supreme Court committee, has the power to summon documents and individuals, ensuring a thorough investigation.
Gandhi concluded by stating the PM has lost all credibility and is no longer fit to hold office, emphasizing the need for a change in leadership to safeguard the country’s democratic principles and economic stability.
