## Odisha Fire Service Rescues Trapped Man, Python Observes Calmly
Odisha Fire Service personnel successfully rescued a man trapped inside a borewell in Bajrangbali village, Nuapada district, Odisha, on February 29th, 2024. The operation, lasting over eight hours, was complicated by the presence of a large Indian python observing the rescue efforts from nearby.
The trapped man, identified as Dhaneshwar Sahoo, a local farmer, had fallen into the 60-foot deep borewell while inspecting it for repairs. Initial attempts to pull him out directly failed due to the narrowness of the well. Fire service officials then employed a rope and harness system, carefully lowering a trained rescuer into the borewell.
The rescuer secured Sahoo with a safety harness and slowly pulled him up, a process hampered by the confined space and the man’s weakened condition. Throughout the entire operation, a sizable Indian python remained remarkably calm and stationary, positioned on a nearby bush, seemingly observing the unfolding rescue.
Fire service officials maintained a safe distance from the python, ensuring both the safety of the rescue team and the snake. Wildlife experts believe the python was not agitated by the activity, possibly due to the slow and deliberate movements of the rescuers and the lack of direct threat.
Sahoo was successfully brought to the surface and immediately provided with medical attention. He was reported to be conscious but weak and was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The incident drew significant local attention, not only for the successful rescue but also for the unusual presence and composure of the python during the prolonged operation. The python eventually moved away on its own after the rescue was completed. The fire service team was praised for their professionalism and efficient handling of both the human rescue and the wildlife encounter.
