Hyderabad City Police have booked 516 cases against individuals and establishments for footpath encroachments and traffic obstructions across the city. The drive, conducted over the past few days, aims to improve pedestrian safety and ease traffic flow.
The majority of the cases, 326, were registered against shopkeepers who displayed goods on footpaths, obstructing pedestrian movement. Another 130 cases were filed against those illegally parking vehicles on footpaths and causing congestion. The remaining 60 cases involved obstructions caused by construction material and other debris.
Police focused on key commercial areas like Begum Bazar, Koti, Sultan Bazar, and Charminar, known for heavy pedestrian traffic and frequent congestion. Enforcement teams removed illegally placed goods, towed away parked vehicles, and issued warnings to offenders.
Authorities state that repeated warnings were issued before resorting to booking cases. The police are collaborating with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address long-standing issues of permanent encroachments. GHMC officials are responsible for removing permanent structures and ensuring footpaths are cleared.
The police commissioner emphasized the importance of public cooperation in maintaining order and ensuring safe pedestrian access. He requested citizens to report any instances of footpath encroachments or traffic obstructions to the local police station or through the Hawk Eye app.
This initiative is part of a larger effort to improve urban infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for Hyderabad residents. The police intend to continue these enforcement drives regularly to deter future violations and maintain order on city streets. Fines were imposed on the offenders, and in some cases, goods were confiscated. The police are also working on identifying repeat offenders and taking stricter action against them.
