A 67-year-old American tourist, identified as Robert John Fouser, passed away while staying in a houseboat on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on February 22, 2024.

Fouser had arrived in Kashmir on February 19th as part of a group tour. He was staying in a houseboat in the Nehru Park area of Dal Lake. The incident occurred during the night.
Police initiated an investigation under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which deals with unnatural deaths. The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi has been informed about the death and is providing consular assistance. Arrangements are being made to repatriate the body to the United States after completion of legal formalities.
