A.P. CM eyes ₹1.9 lakh crore investments, 1.52 lakh jobs in mining and steel sectors

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy aims to attract ₹19 lakh crore in investments and create 15.2 lakh jobs within the mining and steel sectors over the next decade. This ambition is fueled by the state’s rich mineral resources, including significant deposits of iron ore, bauxite, limestone, and manganese.

The government is focusing on establishing a robust industrial ecosystem, including dedicated bulk parks for steel and mining-based industries. Three steel plants—one each in YSR Kadapa, Anantapur, and Vizianagaram districts—are prioritized, with MoUs already signed for projects totaling over ₹70,000 crore. These plants are projected to generate approximately 36,000 jobs directly.

A key strategy involves streamlining approvals and providing infrastructure support to investors. The government is establishing a single-window clearance system and developing port infrastructure to facilitate the export of finished products. Dedicated railway lines and road networks are also planned to improve connectivity to mining areas and ports.

The state possesses approximately 35% of India’s iron ore reserves and substantial bauxite deposits. The government intends to leverage these resources to attract investments in value-added industries, moving beyond raw material exports. Emphasis is placed on attracting investments in downstream industries like ferro alloys, sponge iron, and steel production.

The plan includes developing six bulk parks specifically for steel industries and eight for mining-based industries. These parks will offer plug-and-play infrastructure, reducing the initial investment burden for companies.

The government anticipates that the mining sector alone will attract ₹1.2 lakh crore in investments and create 6.5 lakh jobs. The steel sector is expected to draw ₹17.8 lakh crore and generate 8.7 lakh jobs. The initiative aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a major hub for mining and steel production, contributing significantly to the state’s economic growth and employment generation.
