A Bihar resident, identified as Mohammad Aslam, was arrested at the Secunderabad railway station with 143 kg of ganja (cannabis) on May 16, 2024. The seizure was made by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) during a routine check.
Aslam was attempting to transport the ganja from Visakhapatnam to Bihar via the Secunderabad railway station. Authorities discovered the contraband hidden in 14 bags. The estimated value of the seized ganja is approximately ₹7.15 lakh.
The RPF acted on credible information regarding the transportation of narcotics. Following the discovery, Aslam was handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. The GRP registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Preliminary investigation suggests Aslam was part of a larger network involved in the illegal drug trade. Police are currently working to identify other individuals connected to him and trace the source of the ganja. This is the latest in a series of drug seizures made by the RPF and GRP at railway stations in Telangana.
Authorities have been increasing surveillance and conducting regular checks to curb the transportation of illegal substances through the railway network. The successful operation highlights the commitment of the RPF and GRP to combating drug trafficking and maintaining law and order at railway premises. The investigation is ongoing to dismantle the entire supply chain and apprehend all those involved in this illegal activity.
