Two individuals were arrested in Vizhinjam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, with a combined seizure of MDMA and ganja. The arrests were made by the Vizhinjam police during vehicle inspections conducted as part of Operation Prakruthi.
The first arrest involved a Tamil Nadu native, identified as Abdul Rahman, 32, who was found in possession of 20 grams of MDMA. Police discovered the MDMA hidden within a secret compartment in his vehicle. He was reportedly attempting to deliver the drug to a contact in Vizhinjam.
The second arrest involved a local resident, Shaji, 48, who was apprehended with 10 kilograms of ganja. The ganja was concealed within sacks in his auto-rickshaw. Shaji allegedly sourced the ganja from Andhra Pradesh and intended to distribute it within Thiruvananthapuram district.
Police estimate the combined value of the seized drugs to be approximately ₹6 lakh. Both individuals have been remanded in judicial custody.
The Vizhinjam police have registered cases under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, against both accused. This operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in the region, with increased vigilance and vehicle inspections being implemented.
Authorities indicate that Operation Prakruthi aims to curb the flow of illicit drugs into Kerala, particularly targeting coastal areas susceptible to smuggling activities. Further investigation is underway to identify any potential accomplices or larger networks involved in the drug trade. The police are focusing on tracing the source of the drugs and disrupting the supply chain.
