Two individuals died in separate road accidents in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu, on May 10, 2024.
The first incident occurred near Melpakkam on the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway. A 48-year-old lorry driver, identified as Venkatesan, from Tiruvannamalai, was killed when his vehicle collided with a stationary lorry. Police report the accident happened around 3 a.m. Venkatesan died on the spot due to severe injuries. The Melpakkam police are investigating the cause of the collision.
The second accident took place near Katpadi. A 65-year-old pedestrian, identified as Kuppusamy, a resident of Katpadi, was struck by a speeding vehicle while crossing the road. He sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Katpadi police have registered a case and are attempting to identify the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run incident. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the details of the vehicle and the driver.
Both bodies were sent to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police investigations are ongoing in both cases to determine the exact circumstances leading to the accidents and to take appropriate action against those responsible. These incidents highlight ongoing road safety concerns in the Vellore district.
