Twin blasts: Opposition accuses CM of ‘sedition’; BJP plotting unrest in State, says AAP

Two explosions occurred in Punjab, one at the Pathankot Air Force Station and another in Dinanagar, both in Gurdaspur district, on Thursday. No casualties were reported.

The incidents triggered a political storm, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating the unrest to destabilize the state. AAP alleges a deliberate attempt to create a law and order crisis ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated the blasts were a conspiracy to disrupt peace and harmony, and suggested the BJP was attempting to replicate situations seen in other states.

Opposition parties, including the Congress and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), have countered by accusing the AAP government of failing to maintain law and order and even suggested the possibility of a security lapse. They have demanded a thorough investigation and raised concerns about the state’s preparedness. Some opposition leaders have gone further, alleging the AAP government is deliberately creating an environment of fear.

Initial investigations suggest the explosions were caused by low-intensity explosives, possibly grenades. Authorities are investigating the source of the explosives and potential perpetrators. Security has been heightened across Punjab, particularly in sensitive areas.

The blasts come amidst heightened political tensions in Punjab, with the state government and the BJP frequently clashing on various issues. The AAP government has accused the BJP of attempting to destabilize its rule, while the BJP has criticized the AAP government’s handling of law and order.

The incident has prompted a debate about the state of security in Punjab and the potential for political manipulation in the run-up to the elections. Both central and state agencies are involved in the investigation. The focus is on identifying any potential links to external forces or internal groups seeking to disrupt peace.
