Several drugs consignments recovered along Gujarat coast

Recent operations along the Gujarat coast have resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of illicit drugs, primarily heroin and methamphetamine. Authorities have recovered heroin worth approximately ₹600 crore from two separate locations – a fishing boat near Porbandar and a land parcel in Morbi.

The first seizure involved around 88 kg of heroin recovered from a Pakistani fishing boat intercepted off the Porbandar coast. Five Pakistani nationals were apprehended in connection with this haul. Investigations revealed the boat was likely used specifically for drug trafficking.

Simultaneously, a large consignment of methamphetamine, valued at around ₹480 crore, was discovered hidden in a wooded area near the Jakhau port in Morbi. This shipment consisted of approximately 148 kg of the drug, concealed within a cargo of PVC pipe fittings. Two individuals have been arrested in relation to the Morbi seizure.

These operations were jointly conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Gujarat Police, the Indian Coast Guard, and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The NCB is currently leading the investigation to determine the source and intended destination of both drug consignments, as well as to identify any further individuals involved in the trafficking network.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible link between the two seizures, indicating a coordinated effort to smuggle large quantities of drugs into India via the Gujarat coastline. Authorities believe the drugs were likely intended for distribution across various parts of the country.

The recovered drugs are being sent for forensic analysis to confirm their purity and origin. This recent success represents a significant blow to drug trafficking operations in the region and highlights the increased vigilance of law enforcement agencies along the Gujarat coast. Further investigations are ongoing to dismantle the entire drug supply chain.
