The Karnataka State Planning Commission proposes establishing “Wisdom Valley” – a knowledge and innovation hub – within the Bengaluru Airport City project. This initiative aims to position Karnataka as a global leader in research, development, and innovation, particularly focusing on emerging technologies.
Wisdom Valley envisions a cluster encompassing academic institutions, research organizations, high-tech industries, and start-ups. Key focus areas include aerospace and defence, biotechnology, information technology, and advanced manufacturing. The project intends to attract significant private investment and foster collaboration between academia and industry.
The proposed location within the Bengaluru Airport City offers logistical advantages, including proximity to Kempegowda International Airport, facilitating international collaboration and access to talent. The commission suggests a phased development approach, starting with a 300-acre campus and potentially expanding to 500 acres.
A key component is establishing a “University of Excellence” offering specialized courses aligned with the hub’s focus areas. This university will collaborate with leading global institutions. The project also emphasizes skill development programs to create a skilled workforce.
Funding will be a mix of government support, private investment, and potentially public-private partnerships. The commission is exploring various financial models to ensure the project’s sustainability.
The proposal highlights the need for a dedicated governing body to oversee the development and operation of Wisdom Valley, ensuring alignment with the state’s industrial and innovation policies. It also stresses the importance of creating a conducive ecosystem with streamlined regulations and infrastructure support.
The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities and contribute significantly to Karnataka’s economic growth. The commission believes Wisdom Valley will attract foreign direct investment and enhance the state’s reputation as a knowledge hub. A detailed project report is currently being prepared, outlining the financial projections, implementation timeline, and governance structure. The initiative aligns with the state government’s vision for a knowledge-based economy and aims to leverage Bengaluru’s existing strengths in technology and innovation.
