The Srikalahasti Corridor (SCOR) project in Andhra Pradesh is progressing rapidly, according to Member of Parliament Sri Bharat. The project aims to transform Srikalahasti into a major spiritual and tourist destination, enhancing the infrastructure surrounding the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple.
Key components include a 45-foot tall statue of Nandi, a Vedic theme park, a spiritual museum, a guest house complex with 120 rooms, and a multi-level parking facility accommodating up to 700 vehicles. Land acquisition for the project is nearly complete, with 95% already finalized. Remaining issues are being addressed through negotiations with landowners and utilizing the Land Acquisition Act where necessary.
The project is divided into phases. Phase 1, focusing on the Nandi statue and surrounding areas, is expected to be completed by December 2024. The entire project is slated for completion by December 2025.
Funding is a mix of state and central government allocations. Approximately ₹180 crore has been allocated by the state government, and ₹85 crore from the central government under the Prasad scheme.
MP Sribharat emphasized the project’s potential to boost the local economy through increased tourism and employment opportunities. He highlighted the importance of preserving the historical and cultural significance of Srikalahasti while developing modern infrastructure.
Concerns regarding potential displacement of residents and businesses are being addressed through rehabilitation and resettlement plans. The project also includes provisions for improving drainage systems and addressing traffic congestion in the town. The MP conducted a review meeting with officials to ensure timely completion and quality of work. Focus is also on maintaining the temple’s sanctity throughout the development process.
