BJP won’t support any coalition formation in Tamil Nadu: Nainar Nagenthran

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu will not support or participate in any coalition government formation following the Lok Sabha election results. This decision was announced by Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai and reiterated by senior leader Nainar Nagenthran.

The BJP contested the Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu as part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), alongside the AIADMK and other regional parties. Despite the alliance, the BJP aims to grow as a significant political force independently in the state.

Nagenthran emphasized that the BJP’s objective is not merely to be part of a government but to establish itself as a primary political player in Tamil Nadu, capable of winning elections on its own strength. He stated the party will function as a constructive opposition if the NDA does not secure a majority.

The decision stems from the belief that the BJP needs to build its own base and demonstrate its ability to win seats independently, rather than relying on coalition partners. This strategy reflects a shift in the party’s approach towards Tamil Nadu politics.

Nagenthran also commented on the potential for a third front, expressing skepticism about its viability and stability. He suggested that such formations are often short-lived and lack a clear ideological foundation.

The BJP’s stance indicates a long-term commitment to strengthening its presence in Tamil Nadu, even if it means foregoing immediate participation in government. The party intends to focus on expanding its organizational structure and increasing its voter base.

The leadership believes that a strong, independent BJP will be better positioned to represent the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu and contribute to the state’s development. This decision signals a clear departure from past strategies of solely relying on alliances for political power.
