B.Y. Raghavendra offers invitation to Eshwarappa

Byragonda Shivanand Byrathi, a political secretary to the Chief Minister, extended a formal invitation to former BJP Minister K.S. Eshwarappa to participate in the inauguration of a newly constructed Raghavendra Kalyana Mantapa in Shivamogga on February 18th. This invitation follows Eshwarappa’s recent public announcement of his intention to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Shivamogga, challenging the BJP’s official nominee, B.Y. Raghavendra (the CM’s son).

The invitation is seen as a gesture to potentially persuade Eshwarappa to reconsider his decision and remain within the BJP fold. Byrathi emphasized the significance of Eshwarappa’s presence at the event, highlighting his contributions to the region and the party. He stated the event is a community function and Eshwarappa’s participation would be welcomed by many.

Eshwarappa has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with the BJP’s leadership and the denial of a Lok Sabha ticket, claiming he was unfairly sidelined. He has accused certain party leaders of orchestrating his exclusion and has vowed to fight the election to demonstrate his political strength and the support he enjoys among the people.

The inauguration of the Raghavendra Kalyana Mantapa, named after the CM’s late father and former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, is a significant event in Shivamogga. The attempt to include Eshwarappa suggests the BJP is keen to avoid a public split and a potentially damaging contest between two prominent party figures.

While Byrathi framed the invitation as a courtesy extended to a respected leader, it is widely interpreted as a last-ditch effort to negotiate with Eshwarappa and prevent him from proceeding with his independent candidacy. Eshwarappa has not yet publicly responded to the invitation, leaving his future course of action uncertain. The situation remains fluid and could significantly impact the political dynamics of the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency. The event will be closely watched for any indication of a possible reconciliation or a firming up of Eshwarappa’s decision to contest independently.
