Eight injured as autorickshaw overturns in East Godavari

Eight people sustained injuries when an autorickshaw overturned in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, on May 16, 2024. The incident occurred near Gollaprolu village, Rajamahendravaram rural mandal.

The autorickshaw, reportedly carrying eleven passengers, was traveling from Rajamahendravaram to Gollaprolu when the driver lost control, causing it to overturn. Initial reports suggest the vehicle was overcrowded.

Police and locals rushed to the scene and transported the injured to Government General Hospital in Rajamahendravaram for treatment. Hospital authorities confirmed that eight individuals were admitted with varying degrees of injuries. The condition of the injured is currently stable.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Preliminary investigations point to possible overloading and reckless driving as contributing factors. Police are questioning the driver to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the incident.

The injured have been identified as passengers traveling for daily work and personal errands. Local officials are providing assistance to the victims and their families.
