NC trying to divert attention from its ‘failures’: Mehbooba

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti criticized the National Conference (NC) for attempting to deflect attention from its perceived failures by raising issues like the alleged manipulation of the delimitation exercise and the revocation of Article 370. She accused NC of collaborating with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the past and present, alleging a history of compromises for political gains.

Mufti stated that NC’s current concerns regarding the delimitation process ring hollow given their previous participation in the process and their acceptance of the outcome. She further claimed that NC’s focus on Article 370 is a tactic to regain relevance after losing ground to the PDP.

The PDP leader highlighted NC’s alleged role in facilitating the BJP’s agenda in Jammu and Kashmir, pointing to instances of supporting BJP-led governments and accepting ministerial positions. She argued that NC’s actions have consistently undermined the interests of the people of J&K.

Mufti also questioned NC’s commitment to restoring the special status of J&K, asserting that their past actions demonstrate a willingness to compromise on the issue. She emphasized that the PDP has consistently opposed the revocation of Article 370 and has been at the forefront of the fight to restore the rights of the people of J&K.

She further accused NC of creating a narrative that benefits the BJP and weakens the broader struggle for the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Mufti reiterated her party’s commitment to fighting for the restoration of Article 370 and safeguarding the identity and autonomy of J&K. She called for a united front against the BJP and its policies, urging other political parties to prioritize the interests of the people over political expediency. The PDP leader believes NC is prioritizing its own political survival over the collective interests of the region.
