Congress offers support to TVK but with a condition

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met with actor Vijay on Thursday, fueling speculation about the actor’s potential political entry and its impact on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the state’s political landscape. The meeting, initiated by Vijay, lasted approximately an hour at Stalin’s residence.

The Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) has proposed forming a new political party, tentatively named “Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam” (DMDK), with Vijay as its leader. This initiative stems from Vijay’s fan clubs, which have been actively involved in social service activities. Sources indicate a plan to field candidates in all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and potentially contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

The meeting with Stalin is viewed as a crucial step in gauging the ruling DMK’s willingness to ally with a Vijay-led party. While the DMK has not officially responded, the meeting suggests an openness to exploring a potential alliance.

Key figures involved in the party formation include Vijay’s father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, and prominent fan club leaders. They believe Vijay’s mass appeal can translate into significant electoral gains. The proposed party aims to position itself as a viable alternative to the existing political forces – the DMK, AIADMK, and BJP.

The potential entry of Vijay into politics is expected to disrupt the existing political equations in Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK has expressed skepticism about Vijay’s political ambitions, while the BJP is attempting to cultivate a relationship with the actor.

The success of this new party hinges on several factors, including Vijay’s formal announcement, the party’s organizational structure, and its ability to articulate a clear political ideology. The outcome of the discussions with the DMK will also be pivotal in shaping the party’s future trajectory. The party plans to officially announce its name and agenda soon.
