Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai dismissed accusations of “backstabbing” regarding potential alliances post-election, asserting that forming a government with like-minded parties is a natural political process. He emphasized that the Congress party’s primary goal is to prevent the AIADMK from returning to power.
Selvaperunthagai highlighted the historical precedent of coalition governments in Tamil Nadu, noting that no single party has consistently won a majority. He pointed to the DMK-led alliances that have previously governed the state, arguing that similar arrangements are acceptable if they serve the people’s interests.
He addressed concerns about aligning with parties previously critical of the Congress, stating that political stances can evolve and that the focus should be on shared objectives – specifically, removing the AIADMK. He specifically mentioned the possibility of collaborating with parties like the VCK and the Left, acknowledging their past criticisms but prioritizing the larger goal of an AIADMK-free government.
The TNCC president criticized the AIADMK for its alleged corruption and failures during its previous tenure. He accused them of misusing power and neglecting the welfare of the people. He further stated that the Congress party is confident of winning a significant number of seats and playing a crucial role in forming the next government.
Selvaperunthagai also defended the Congress party’s decision to contest in more seats compared to the previous election, asserting that it reflects the party’s growing strength and public support.
