Nandyal Collector urges officials to promote online yoga classes

Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna District Collector, P. Rajababu, has directed officials to actively promote free online yoga classes offered by the Ministry of AYUSH. The initiative aims to improve public health and well-being, particularly focusing on stress management and lifestyle diseases.

These classes, available through the Yoga at Home portal (yogaathome.gov.in), cater to various skill levels – beginner, intermediate, and advanced – and are conducted in multiple languages including Hindi and English. The Collector emphasized the importance of disseminating information about the program widely, utilizing Village Secretariats, Rythu Bharosa Kendras, and self-help groups as key outreach channels.

Mr. Rajababu specifically instructed officials to encourage participation from pregnant women, individuals with chronic illnesses, and those experiencing stress due to work or personal life. He highlighted yoga’s potential benefits in managing conditions like diabetes, blood pressure, and heart disease.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to make yoga accessible to all citizens, regardless of their location or socio-economic background. Officials were tasked with organizing awareness campaigns and assisting individuals in registering for the online classes. The Collector also requested a report on the number of people enrolled and actively participating in the yoga sessions within the district.

The focus on online accessibility addresses barriers to traditional yoga classes, such as cost, time constraints, and geographical limitations. By leveraging digital platforms, the Ministry of AYUSH and the Krishna District administration hope to reach a larger audience and promote a healthier lifestyle across the region. The program aligns with national health priorities and seeks to integrate yoga as a preventative healthcare measure.
