Andhra Pradesh begins Godavari Pushkaralu 2027 preparations 18 months in advance

Andhra Pradesh has initiated preparations for the Godavari Pushkaralu festival slated for July 2027, a significant 18 months in advance. The State government has allocated ₹1,066.88 crore for infrastructure development and arrangements related to the 12-day event expected to draw over 3 crore devotees.

Key focus areas include enhancing bathing ghats along the Godavari River, improving road connectivity to pilgrimage centers, and providing adequate accommodation and transportation facilities. Specifically, 176 bathing ghats will be developed, with ₹450 crore earmarked for this purpose. Rajamahendravaram will be the primary venue, with additional focus on sites in West Godavari, Alluri Sitharama Raju, and Eluru districts.

The preparations encompass construction of permanent concrete ghats, temporary changing rooms, and toilet facilities. Roads leading to the ghats will be widened and repaired, costing approximately ₹300 crore. The government also plans to establish dedicated parking areas and implement crowd management strategies.

Accommodation is a priority, with plans to utilize schools, community halls, and construct temporary shelters to house the anticipated influx of pilgrims. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will operate special buses, and railway authorities are being requested to run additional trains to facilitate travel.

A dedicated committee, headed by the District Collector of Rajamahendravaram, has been formed to oversee the preparations. Sub-committees will focus on specific aspects like sanitation, security, and medical facilities. The government is also emphasizing the importance of maintaining the river’s cleanliness and preventing pollution during the festival.

The early start to preparations aims to ensure a smooth and safe experience for devotees and to showcase the state’s preparedness for large-scale events. The government intends to leverage the festival to promote tourism and highlight the cultural significance of the Godavari River.
