Somnath Amrut Mahotsav: PM Modi holds roadshow in Gujarat’s Somnath

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has laid the foundation stone for projects totaling over ₹85,000 crore in Somnath, Gujarat, marking the commencement of the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’. The projects span various sectors including railway, road, energy, and port development, aimed at bolstering infrastructure and connectivity in the region.

Key railway projects include the redevelopment of Somnath railway station, gauge conversion of Veraval-Somnath railway line, and construction of a new line connecting Delvada and Paschim Shambhar. Road projects focus on improving national highway connectivity, including widening and constructing new sections.

In the energy sector, a significant investment is directed towards renewable energy projects, aligning with India’s commitment to sustainable development. Port development initiatives aim to enhance the capacity and efficiency of ports along the Gujarat coastline.

The event also saw the announcement of the ‘Somnath Amrut Mahotsav’, a year-long celebration leading up to May 11, 2026, commemorating the completion of 1,500 years since the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple. This festival will involve various cultural, religious, and developmental activities.

The projects are expected to generate employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region. The redevelopment of Somnath station will improve passenger amenities and enhance the overall travel experience for pilgrims and tourists visiting the temple. Improved road and rail connectivity will facilitate smoother transportation of goods and people, boosting trade and commerce.

The Prime Minister emphasized the significance of Somnath as a symbol of India’s cultural heritage and resilience. He highlighted the government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the country’s historical and spiritual sites. The projects are viewed as integral to the development of a ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ and a ‘New India’. The event underscored the government’s focus on infrastructure development and its dedication to honoring India’s rich cultural legacy.
