The Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh State Branch, organized a mega blood donation camp in Vijayawada on May 8, 2024, commemorating World Red Cross Day. The camp, held at the P.B. Siddhartha College of Arts and Sciences, saw participation from various organizations and individuals, resulting in the collection of 850 units of blood.
The event was inaugurated by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer, who praised the Red Cross Society’s humanitarian efforts and emphasized the critical role of blood donation in saving lives. He highlighted the organization’s contributions during natural calamities and its commitment to serving vulnerable populations.
Several dignitaries attended, including Legislative Council Chairman Ch. Ramachandraiah, Minister of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries S. Appalaraju, and Vijayawada MP Nandigam Suresh. They all lauded the Red Cross Society’s dedication to social service and encouraged continued support for its initiatives.
The blood donation camp aimed to address the ongoing need for blood in hospitals and blood banks across the state. Organizers noted a consistent demand for blood, particularly for patients suffering from thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, and those undergoing surgeries. The collected blood will be distributed to various government and private hospitals in Andhra Pradesh.
The Red Cross Society also used the occasion to raise awareness about its other activities, including disaster preparedness, first aid training, and health programs. They emphasized the importance of volunteerism and community involvement in furthering their humanitarian mission.
