Eluru District Superintendent of Police (SP) D. Mary Pragna received the “Best Recovery Award” from Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta. The award recognizes her district’s exceptional performance in recovering stolen property, specifically focusing on a significant increase in recovery rates compared to previous years.
Eluru district achieved a remarkable 72.82% recovery rate of stolen property in 2023, a substantial jump from the 32.68% recorded in 2022. The recovered property is valued at approximately ₹3.34 crore, including gold, silver, vehicles, and electronic gadgets. This success is attributed to a multi-pronged strategy implemented by SP Pragna and her team.
Key initiatives included a dedicated property cell, intensified patrolling in crime-prone areas, and leveraging technology like CCTV footage analysis and data analytics to identify and track criminals. The SP emphasized the importance of close coordination with local police stations and the effective utilization of informants.
A specific focus was placed on recovering gold ornaments, with a recovery rate of 82.28% achieved in this category. The recovered items were returned to their rightful owners, providing significant relief and restoring public trust in the police force.
The DGP commended SP Pragna for her leadership and innovative approach to crime prevention and detection. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of citizens. The award serves as a motivation for other districts to emulate Eluru’s success in property recovery and improve their overall policing performance. The Eluru district police also focused on quick investigation and filing of charge sheets, contributing to the higher recovery rate.
