Kerala’s Anti-Narcotics Special Force (ANSF) is developing a comprehensive action plan to safeguard students from drug trafficking and abuse, particularly focusing on educational institutions and their surrounding areas. The initiative stems from rising concerns about drug peddling targeting students, evidenced by recent seizures near schools and colleges.
The plan involves a multi-pronged approach including increased surveillance, intelligence gathering, and direct engagement with students, teachers, and parents. ANSF intends to establish a network of student volunteers within schools to act as informants, reporting suspicious activities. These volunteers will receive training to identify drug-related signs and safe reporting procedures.
A key component is mapping vulnerable locations – areas near educational institutions frequently used for drug transactions. This will facilitate focused patrolling and targeted enforcement. The ANSF will collaborate with local police to intensify surveillance in these zones.
The action plan also prioritizes awareness campaigns within schools and colleges. These campaigns will educate students about the dangers of drug abuse, the tactics employed by traffickers, and the legal consequences of involvement with drugs. Experts will conduct sessions to address student queries and dispel misconceptions.
Furthermore, the ANSF plans to work closely with school management and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) to create a supportive environment for students. This includes establishing counseling mechanisms and providing resources for students struggling with addiction.
The force acknowledges the evolving nature of drug trafficking, including the use of social media and dark web for peddling. They are enhancing their cyber capabilities to monitor online activities and identify potential drug networks.
The initiative aims to create a drug-free environment around educational institutions, ensuring students can focus on their studies without the threat of drug abuse and trafficking. The ANSF is seeking support from various stakeholders, including the Education Department and local communities, to implement the plan effectively. Regular evaluation and adjustments will be made based on the plan’s effectiveness and emerging trends in drug trafficking.
