Retired High Court judge Ramachandra Huddar appointed chairperson of Admission Overseeing Committee

Retired High Court Judge R. Ramachandra Huddar has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Admission Overseeing Committee for private unaided medical and dental colleges in Karnataka for the academic year 2024-25.

The Karnataka government’s Department of Health and Family Welfare issued a notification confirming the appointment, along with the nomination of other members to the committee. Dr. T.A. Veerabhadrappa, Director of the Department of Medical Education, will serve as the member-secretary.

The committee’s primary responsibility is to oversee the admission process to private medical and dental colleges, ensuring transparency and adherence to regulations set by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the state government. This includes monitoring seat allocation, fee structure, and admission criteria.

Other members of the committee include Dr. H.V. Madhusudan, Dr. Sharanagouda Patil, Dr. K.S. Chandrashekar, and representatives from the Karnataka Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges Association.

The formation of this committee is crucial in the context of the NEET-UG exam and the subsequent counseling process for medical admissions. It aims to prevent irregularities and ensure a fair and merit-based admission process. The committee will play a key role in addressing grievances and resolving disputes that may arise during admissions.

The appointment comes ahead of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) counseling, which is expected to begin soon. The committee will be responsible for ensuring that all private medical and dental colleges follow the prescribed guidelines and fee structure determined by the Fee Fixation Committee. This oversight is intended to protect the interests of students and prevent exploitation by private institutions. The committee’s decisions will be binding on all private medical and dental colleges in the state.
