Telangana experienced a significant drop in temperatures across several districts, offering respite from the intense heatwave conditions. The highest temperature recorded in the state decreased from 46°C to 42°C.
Nalgonda district recorded the highest temperature at 42°C, a substantial decrease from the previous 46°C. Adilabad saw a drop to 36.8°C, Bhadradri Kothagudem to 40°C, and Hyderabad to 38.7°C. Other districts also reported reduced temperatures, including Karimnagar (40.5°C), Khammam (41°C), Mahabubnagar (41.5°C), Medak (39.5°C), Ramagundam (41°C), and Warangal (40°C).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed this cooling trend to the influence of a western disturbance and prevailing southwesterly winds. These conditions are expected to bring light to moderate rainfall across several parts of Telangana over the next few days.
IMD has issued a yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall for several districts including Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts on May 16th and 17th. A similar alert is in place for Hyderabad on May 17th.
The forecast predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) are likely in these areas. Citizens are advised to take necessary precautions during rainfall and thunderstorms. The IMD also forecasts a gradual increase in temperatures after May 18th, but they are not expected to reach the extreme levels seen previously.
The decrease in temperature provides temporary relief to the public and reduces the risk of heat-related illnesses. Authorities continue to advise people to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the heat.
