CPI, CPI(M) meetings begin to decide on extending support for government formation in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2024 Results:

The DMK-led alliance secured a majority, winning 38 seats. The DMK itself won 22 seats, significantly lower than its 2019 performance of 38.

AIADMK alliance won 20 seats. AIADMK secured 10 seats, a decline from its previous performance.

The BJP won no seats, marking a complete strikeout in the state. The party contested on 10 seats.

The Congress party, part of the DMK alliance, won all 9 seats it contested.

The VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi), a key DMK ally, won 2 seats.

The CPI(M) won 2 seats, and the CPI won 1 seat, both as part of the DMK alliance.

TVK (Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi) won 1 seat, also within the DMK coalition.

Independent candidate secured 1 seat.

Overall seat distribution: DMK 22, AIADMK 10, Congress 9, VCK 2, CPI(M) 2, CPI 1, TVK 1, Independent 1.

The election witnessed a decline in the DMK’s seat share compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but the alliance still managed to secure a comfortable victory. The AIADMK also experienced a reduction in its seat count.

The BJP’s failure to win any seats is a significant outcome, highlighting its limited influence in the state. The performance of the DMK’s allies, particularly the Congress, VCK, CPI(M), CPI, and TVK, contributed to the alliance’s overall success.
