A.P. Intermediate education chief raps principals of 50 underperforming government junior colleges

Andhra Pradesh Intermediate Education Commissionerate has issued strong warnings to principals of 50 government junior colleges exhibiting consistently poor academic performance. The colleges were identified based on low pass percentages in the recent Intermediate exams – specifically, results below 30%.

Commissioner MV Seshagiri Babu conducted a review meeting with these principals, expressing dissatisfaction with the results and attributing the failures to a lack of dedicated effort and effective implementation of strategies. He criticized the principals for not utilizing available resources adequately and for failing to provide sufficient support to students.

Key issues highlighted included inadequate teaching staff, particularly in crucial subjects like mathematics and physics. Several colleges were found to be operating with a significant number of vacancies. The Commissioner directed officials to immediately fill these vacancies through a special drive, utilizing guest faculty if necessary.

Principals were instructed to implement a detailed action plan to improve results, focusing on intensive coaching for students, regular monitoring of progress, and conducting more frequent tests and assessments. They were also told to prioritize student attendance and address drop-out rates.

The Commissioner emphasized the need for better utilization of digital resources and online learning platforms. He directed the principals to ensure all students have access to these resources and are trained to use them effectively.

Further, principals were warned of strict action, including potential transfers or disciplinary measures, if there is no significant improvement in performance in the next academic year. A follow-up review will be conducted to assess the progress made. The aim is to bring all government junior colleges up to a minimum pass percentage of 60%. The Commissioner also stressed the importance of parental involvement in the educational process and urged principals to actively engage with parents.
