O.J. Janeesh of the CPI(M) won the Kodungalloor constituency in Kerala, securing 73,824 votes.
Congress candidate, T.K. Musthafa, received 65,228 votes.
BDJS candidate, N.R. Jayadeep, obtained 12,399 votes.
The election witnessed a voter turnout of 82.74%.
Janeesh attributed his victory to the electorate’s rejection of “false allegations” leveled against him during the campaign. He specifically referenced claims regarding his involvement in a case related to the felling of rubber trees. He stated the people understood the truth and supported him.
The CPI(M) candidate emphasized the significance of the victory as a reaffirmation of the LDF government’s development initiatives and welfare programs. He highlighted the support received from various sections of society.
Janeesh expressed gratitude to his supporters and party workers for their dedicated efforts. He promised to continue working for the development of Kodungalloor and address the concerns of its residents.
He also noted the increased margin of victory compared to the previous election, indicating growing acceptance of the LDF in the constituency. In 2016, he lost by a margin of 12,118 votes, while in 2021, he lost by 9,832 votes. This election saw him win by 8,596 votes.
The campaign was marked by intense rivalry between the LDF and the UDF, with both sides engaging in vigorous efforts to mobilize voters. The allegations against Janeesh were a central point of contention during the electioneering.
The victory is considered a boost for the CPI(M) and the LDF in the Thrissur district, and a significant outcome in the broader context of the Kerala Assembly elections.
