Adoption requests are flooding in for the six Siberian Huskies abandoned near Shankarpally-Patancheru road in Hyderabad. Initially, three dogs were found, sparking widespread concern and offers to adopt. Following public outcry and search efforts, three more Huskies were rescued from the same area, bringing the total to six.
The dogs, all young adults, were discovered in a severely malnourished and dehydrated state, suggesting they were left without food or water for a considerable period. Animal welfare organizations, including the Hyderabad Animal Care and Protection Foundation (HACPF) and others, are involved in their rescue, rehabilitation, and eventual rehoming.
The HACPF is currently housing the dogs and providing necessary medical care. Veterinary examinations revealed they were suffering from skin infections and were significantly underweight. They are now on a recovery diet and receiving treatment.
The sudden surge in abandonment is believed to be linked to the declining temperatures. Siberian Huskies require cold climates and are not suited to Hyderabad’s hot weather. Owners may have been unable or unwilling to care for them as the weather warmed up, leading to their abandonment.
Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the owners responsible for abandoning the dogs. Abandoning animals is illegal and carries penalties.
The overwhelming response from potential adopters highlights public compassion for animals. However, organizations are emphasizing the importance of responsible pet ownership and thorough consideration before adopting, ensuring a suitable and permanent home for these rescued Huskies. Adoption procedures include verification of potential owners’ living conditions and commitment to providing appropriate care. The organizations are prioritizing adopters experienced with the breed or those who understand the specific needs of Huskies.
