Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor, has accused the BJP of attempting to “hijack” democracy and asserted that Punjab will halt the BJP’s “Vijay Rath” (victory chariot). He made these statements while addressing a rally in Punjab, framing the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a battle to save democracy.
Kejriwal alleged the BJP is using the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to suppress opposition leaders, specifically mentioning his own recent arrest and the targeting of other leaders like Hemant Soren and Sanjay Raut. He claimed these actions are aimed at weakening opposition parties before the elections.
He further stated that the BJP’s goal is to change the Constitution, potentially abolishing reservations and undermining social justice. He emphasized that if the BJP retains power, it will fundamentally alter the country’s democratic fabric.
Kejriwal highlighted Punjab’s historical role in resisting authoritarianism, referencing its past struggles against central government overreach. He expressed confidence that Punjab, known for its rebellious spirit, will once again lead the charge in protecting democracy by defeating the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
He appealed to Punjab voters to vote against the BJP, framing it as a vote to safeguard the Constitution and democratic principles. He also criticized the BJP for allegedly attempting to destabilize Punjab by creating unrest and promoting divisive politics.
The rally served as a platform for AAP to mobilize support in Punjab and position itself as a key player in the opposition alliance against the BJP. Kejriwal’s speech aimed to galvanize voters by portraying the elections as a crucial moment for preserving India’s democratic values. He reiterated his commitment to fighting against what he perceives as the BJP’s authoritarian tendencies.
