TTV Dhinakaran, leader of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), has accused the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) of submitting a forged letter to the Tamil Nadu Governor, R.S. Ravindra Waikar, falsely claiming the AMMK’s support. The alleged letter was presented as part of TVK leader B. Surendran’s attempt to secure recognition as a recognised political party in the state.
Dhinakaran asserts the letter is fabricated and bears no authenticity, stating the AMMK has not issued any such endorsement to the TVK. He claims this is a deliberate attempt by the TVK to mislead the Governor and gain undue advantage in the political landscape. He further alleges the TVK is attempting to project a false impression of widespread support.
The AMMK has filed a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police (DGP) demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and requesting action against those responsible for creating and submitting the forged document. Dhinakaran has emphasized that the AMMK will pursue legal recourse to ensure the truth prevails and to protect the party’s integrity.
Surendran, leader of TVK, has responded by stating that the letter was genuine and provided by an AMMK functionary, though he did not name the individual. He maintains the TVK acted in good faith based on the document received.
This dispute arises amidst ongoing political maneuvering in Tamil Nadu, particularly concerning the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Both AMMK and TVK are relatively smaller parties seeking to establish a significant presence. The recognition as a recognised party would grant TVK certain privileges, including a common election symbol and access to resources. Dhinakaran views the TVK’s actions as a calculated move to undermine the AMMK’s position and potentially benefit their political rivals. The Governor’s office has not yet issued a statement regarding the authenticity of the letter.
