P.K. Sasi launches forum to unite CPI(M) rebels in Kerala

PK Sasi, former CPI(M) State committee member and MLA, has launched a new forum named ‘Janakeeya Vedi’ (People’s Forum) aiming to unite CPI(M) rebels and dissenting voices within Kerala’s political landscape. The forum intends to function as a platform for those feeling marginalized or unfairly treated within the party, offering a space for discussion and collective action.

Sasi, who was removed from the State committee following allegations of sexual harassment, frames the forum as a response to increasing dissatisfaction with the current CPI(M) leadership’s approach, particularly regarding organizational matters and the handling of dissent. He alleges a growing disconnect between the party leadership and grassroots workers, and a suppression of internal democracy.

The Janakeeya Vedi isn’t positioned as a new political party, but rather as a pressure group seeking to influence the CPI(M) from within and advocate for changes. Sasi emphasizes the forum’s goal is to strengthen the Left movement by addressing internal issues and fostering a more inclusive environment. He claims significant support from within the CPI(M), including former and current members at various levels.

The launch event saw participation from several individuals previously associated with CPI(M) who have expressed grievances against the party. Speakers at the event criticized the leadership’s alleged authoritarian tendencies and the lack of opportunities for genuine participation in decision-making.

Sasi clarified the forum will not engage in activities directly opposing the LDF government, but will focus on raising concerns and advocating for policy changes within the CPI(M). He anticipates the forum will play a role in the upcoming party congress, attempting to influence the agenda and push for reforms. The Janakeeya Vedi represents a notable challenge to the CPI(M) leadership, potentially signaling a growing internal rift within the party. The forum’s success will depend on its ability to consolidate support and effectively articulate its concerns to the party hierarchy.
