## NCRB Crime in India 2024 Report Summary
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report for 2023 reveals a rise in several key crime categories across India. Total reported cognizable crimes increased by 3.5% to 6.98 lakh cases compared to 2022.
**Crimes Against Women:** Cases of crimes against women rose by 4.46% to 51,340, with a significant increase in cases registered under Section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) – a 19.4% jump. Cases of rape registered a slight decrease of 0.8%. The rate of charge-sheeting in crimes against women remains low, at 76.7%.
**Crimes Against Children:** Crimes against children increased by 5.8% to 1.53 lakh cases. Pocso Act cases witnessed a substantial rise of 14.5%. Kidnapping and abduction of children also increased.
**Violent Crimes:** Murder cases saw a 5.3% increase, reaching 30,226 cases. Attempt to commit murder cases also rose by 7.3%. Cases related to causing hurt increased by 5.6%.
**Property Crimes:** Theft cases increased by 2.4%, while burglary cases decreased by 2.6%. Auto theft saw a rise of 16.8%.
**Cybercrime:** Reported cybercrime cases continued their upward trend, increasing by 26.7% to 91,357 cases. The majority of these cases relate to cheating with intent to defraud, followed by online banking fraud.
**Other Notable Trends:** Cases of offences against the State, including those related to sedition and promoting enmity, saw a significant increase. Cases under the Arms Act also rose.
**State-wise Data:** Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of total crimes, followed by Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. However, the report highlights variations in crime rates across different states and Union Territories.
