Left Front to hold protest rally in Kolkata over ‘attacks’ on working people after poll results

The Left Front in West Bengal will hold a protest rally in Kolkata on May 22nd, 2024, to demonstrate against alleged attacks on political workers and ordinary citizens following the Lok Sabha election results.

The rally, starting from College Square and culminating at the State Election Commission office, aims to highlight what the Left Front describes as a pattern of violence perpetrated by supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Specifically, the Left Front alleges incidents of attacks targeting their party offices, workers, and individuals perceived to have supported opposition parties. They claim these attacks include physical assaults, vandalism, and threats. The party cites instances in various districts including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, and East Burdwan.

Left Front leaders accuse the TMC of using post-poll violence to intimidate opposition and consolidate its power. They argue that the attacks are creating an atmosphere of fear and hindering democratic processes.

The protest is intended to pressure the State Election Commission to take immediate action to investigate the alleged incidents and ensure the safety and security of all political workers and citizens. The Left Front demands a fair and impartial investigation into the violence and the punishment of those responsible.

The rally is also a show of strength by the Left Front, which suffered significant losses in the recent Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal. They aim to demonstrate their continued relevance and commitment to fighting for the rights of the people.

Leaders from constituent parties of the Left Front, including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], the All India Forward Bloc, and the Revolutionary Socialist Party, are expected to participate in the rally. They are calling on all democratic and secular forces to join the protest against what they term as the “reign of terror” unleashed by the TMC.
