Explosions in Amritsar, Jalandhar part of BJP’s ‘Mission Punjab’: AAP MP Sanjay Singh

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh alleges the recent explosions in Amritsar and Jalandhar, Punjab, are part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) “Mission Punjab,” a strategy to create unrest and destabilize the state. He claims the BJP is attempting to replicate tactics allegedly used in other states to disrupt peace and gain political advantage.

The explosions occurred on September 24th, with the first taking place near the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the second in Jalandhar. Both involved low-intensity blasts with no casualties reported. Investigations are ongoing, with initial reports suggesting the use of pressure cookers as improvised explosive devices.

Singh directly accused the BJP of orchestrating the blasts to create an atmosphere of fear and distrust, potentially paving the way for central rule in Punjab. He referenced past instances where similar incidents preceded central intervention in other states. He further stated that intelligence agencies are being misused to carry out these activities.

The Punjab government, led by AAP Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has requested a high-level investigation by central agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA). However, Singh expressed skepticism about the impartiality of these agencies, alleging they are under the BJP’s control. He demanded a court-monitored investigation to ensure transparency and accountability.

Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Brar echoed concerns about a potential conspiracy and called for a thorough investigation.

The BJP has dismissed Singh’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. BJP national vice-president Saudan Singh stated the accusations are an attempt to divert attention from the AAP government’s failures. He emphasized the need to allow investigative agencies to complete their work without political interference.

The incidents have heightened security across Punjab, with increased vigilance at religious sites and public places. Authorities are focusing on identifying the perpetrators and uncovering any potential links to larger conspiracies. The state government has announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
