CBI arrests postal department official in ₹30,000 bribery case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Postal Assistant in Telangana’s Karimnagar district for demanding and accepting a ₹30,000 bribe. The accused, identified as P. Ravi Kumar, was working at the Post Office, Kothapalli, Karimnagar Division.

The CBI received a complaint alleging that Ravi Kumar was demanding a bribe from the complainant, K. Ramesh, for processing the maturity amount of his Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) account. Ramesh’s father had invested in the scheme, and after his death, Ramesh applied to claim the maturity amount.

Ravi Kumar allegedly insisted on a ₹30,000 bribe to expedite the process and release the funds. Following the complaint, the CBI laid a trap. The bribe amount was handed over to Ravi Kumar, and he was caught red-handed.

Searches were conducted at the residential premises of the accused in Karimnagar, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents and cash. The investigation revealed that Ravi Kumar was allegedly abusing his official position to obtain illegal gratification.

The CBI registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, against Ravi Kumar. He was produced before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad and remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing to determine the extent of Ravi Kumar’s illicit activities and identify any potential accomplices. This arrest highlights the CBI’s continued efforts to combat corruption within government departments.
