Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a function commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Somnath Temple’s reconstruction, highlighting its historical significance and the extensive restoration work undertaken. The original temple was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over centuries, representing resilience and the enduring spirit of India.
Modi emphasized the temple’s symbolism as a testament to India’s cultural identity and its resistance against foreign invasions. He detailed the historical context, referencing attacks by Mahmud of Ghazni and subsequent attempts to rebuild the temple, culminating in the efforts led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and K.M. The Prime Minister spoke about the recent restoration and development work at the temple complex, including the creation of the ‘Shri Somnath 51 Shakti Peeth,’ featuring 51 Shakti Peeths from across India within the temple premises. He also mentioned the implementation of modern technologies for visitor management and enhanced facilities for pilgrims.
