Online process to join arts and science colleges begins today

Tamil Nadu’s Higher Education Department has initiated the online counselling process for admissions to undergraduate courses in Arts and Science colleges across the state. The process began today, May 13, 2024, through the Tamil Nadu Higher Education Single Window Committee website (tnhighereducation.gov.in/admissions).

Key dates include application submission until May 31, 2024. The rank list is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024, and counselling will commence on June 10, 2024. Classes are expected to begin in July 2024.

This year, approximately 1.8 lakh seats are available in around 160 Arts and Science colleges, including government and private aided/unaided institutions. The counselling will be conducted in multiple rounds to fill these seats.

Eligibility criteria require candidates to have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination (Class 12) from Tamil Nadu State Board or an equivalent examination. A minimum of 60% in HSC is generally required for most courses, with relaxed norms for certain reserved categories.

The online application requires students to upload relevant certificates, including mark sheets, community certificates, and transfer certificates. A non-refundable application fee of ₹200 applies.

The counselling process will involve choice filling, where students can select their preferred colleges and courses based on their eligibility and rank. Seat allocation will be based on a merit-cum-reservation policy, considering factors like community, gender, and special categories.

This year’s process emphasizes a streamlined online approach, aiming for transparency and convenience for applicants. The government has also established help desks at various colleges to assist students with the application and counselling process. Students are advised to carefully read the guidelines and instructions available on the official website before applying. The system allows students to apply for a maximum of five courses.
