Efforts on to integrate border populations into national mainstream: J&K L-G

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is focusing on integrating populations living along the border areas into the national mainstream through various developmental and security-related initiatives. These efforts address long-standing grievances related to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Key initiatives include the construction of bunkers for border residents to ensure safety during cross-border firing, with over 1,300 completed and more planned. The administration is also prioritizing road connectivity, with projects underway to improve access to remote villages. This includes the construction of all-weather roads and tunnels to counter disruptions caused by weather or security concerns.

Educational infrastructure is being strengthened through the establishment of new schools and colleges, alongside initiatives to improve the quality of education. Healthcare access is being enhanced by upgrading existing facilities and establishing new ones, including specialized hospitals.

Economic empowerment is a central focus, with schemes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, skill development, and employment opportunities. These include support for local businesses, agricultural development programs, and initiatives to promote tourism in border regions. The administration is also working to provide reservation in jobs for border residents.

Security measures are being enhanced to ensure a safe and secure environment, allowing residents to pursue their livelihoods without fear. This involves strengthening border surveillance and improving coordination between security forces.

The administration emphasizes a shift from a security-centric approach to a development-focused approach in border areas. They aim to address the socio-economic disparities and provide a better quality of life for border residents, fostering a sense of belonging and integration with the rest of the country. Recent outreach programs and public interactions are intended to understand and address the specific needs and concerns of these communities. The goal is to create a sense of ownership and participation in the development process.
