Efforts on to integrate border populations into national mainstream: J&K L-G

The Jammu and Kashmir administration is actively working to integrate populations living along the border areas into the national mainstream through various developmental and welfare initiatives. These efforts are focused on addressing long-standing grievances related to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

Key initiatives include the construction of bunkers for border residents to provide safety during cross-border shelling, with over 7,000 bunkers completed and more planned. The administration is also prioritizing the completion of pending infrastructure projects like roads, bridges, and power supply lines in these regions.

Significant focus is placed on education, with efforts to improve school infrastructure, provide scholarships, and ensure access to quality education for children in border areas. Healthcare facilities are being upgraded, and specialized medical camps are being organized to address the specific health needs of the population.

Economic empowerment is a central theme, with schemes aimed at promoting self-employment, skill development, and agricultural diversification. These include providing financial assistance for establishing small businesses, supporting local artisans, and promoting horticulture and agriculture.

The administration highlights a shift in approach, moving away from a security-centric response to a development-focused strategy. This involves increased engagement with local communities, addressing their concerns, and ensuring their participation in the development process.

Recent initiatives include the reservation of seats in professional colleges for border area students and the implementation of schemes to provide employment opportunities for youth. The government also emphasizes improved connectivity through road and communication networks.

The aim is to create a sense of belonging and shared prosperity among border residents, fostering their integration into the national mainstream and ensuring their overall well-being. The administration acknowledges the unique challenges faced by these communities and is committed to addressing them through sustained and targeted interventions.
